Hi. I just purchased a SG-2440 from the pfSense store to replace my Alix based pfSense.  I have a few questions. I just placed the order today and it already shipped so I do not have it in hand yet. Anxious to try it out.

      1. I am reading that the image that comes pre loaded on the SG-2440 is different from the community edition that is publicly available and is "tuned" to the hardware its running on. My question is whether or not I will have access to the image in the case that I need to reload the SG-2440. If I needed to reload the image and used the "community one" I am under the impression that I would loose the tuning that had been done to the image that came preloaded.

      2. Since the image on the SG-2440 is "tuned" to the hardware by pfSense themselves am I able to export the settings from my ALIX system and import them? Will I loose the "tuning" if I do this? Should I rather recreate all the setting manually instead of importing?

      Thank You

        1. The unit is supplied with instructions about where to find the "tuned" image if you need to reinstall completely. And it will look in the special place for updates also.
The "community" one works also. I am running that, as it happens, because I often follow the bleeding edge with development snapshots. I believe the "tuning" is things like the content of loader.conf.local but nobody is saying officially.

        2. There is no "tuning" in the config.xml AFAIK. You can certainly import a config from elsewhere, reassign interfaces as needed and run. I did that on the 2 SG-2440 that I have in production.

As the Greek philosopher Isosceles used to say, "There are 3 sides to every triangle."

Awesome, thank you Phil for the information. I am excited to get it delivered. Hopefully should be here by the end of the week

          Cheers!
