3g/4g hardware question for pfSense team
-
Some time back, I saw mentioned a device that I think jimp? suggested based on it's what the team uses for testing 3g/4g support.
I however can't find where that was mentioned.Since I'm unhappy with the solution I had, I was wondering if the team would share that information again.
I'm not looking for a recommendation as much as, we are using this/these devices for our testing, and they work for us.
I'd appreciate the help.

3G/4G hardware is a moving target as devices get introduced and later phased out. Any device knowledge we have ends up on the wiki at https://doc.pfsense.org/index.php/Known_Working_3G-4G_Modems

Are you looking for internal solutions or external? I can confirm the Sierra MC7700 and MC7710 as working in pfSense. These are LTE devices for full length Mini-PciE slots with a SIM slot. Depending on your source you may need to flash it to the DIP firmware for BSD compatibility. Max DIP mode speed I have found is 25megabit/s.
For external Ethernet devices there is no compatibility issues. Sierra GX450/ES450 are the quickest you will find.
Cradlepoint also makes external 4G modem devices.Thirdly is external hockey pucks like Verizon Jetpak. These devices hookup via an USB mode in pfSense. Setting must be made to the device internal menu for it to connect. Enable Tethering and disable CDROM mode are two items to look for.

If it must be external but you want to hug up the Sierra Wireless card anyway you could try out
one of those adapter here shown under the link. miniPCIe to USB adapter
