Dimension 3000

Is anyone running pfsense on dimension 3000? Or ever tried setting pfsense on it?

Dell Dimension 3000 is a pretty standard P4 box. Slap a Sun PCI 4 port gigabit Ethernet card in and have fun. Not the most energy efficient rig for sure…

what other NIC would you suggest?

Depends on number of RJ45 ports needed. The Sun i referenced is a good card. Is a PCI-X factor but fits and runs in a PCI slot. So scope your slots to see if the extra edge connector length will fit (You need clearance behind end of socket on 1 pci slot to work)I cannot guarantee it will work in the Dell. I used plenty of these cards, never in a Dell… I am assuming you are on a tight budget. Intel cards are mostly recommended here, but these work well too and cheap.

Here are the Intel cards. Single port only in PCI. Intel does have dual/quad but are PCI-X. I have never tested one in a regular PCI slot. I bought those Sun cards for next to nothing..
