      I have an APU14D with a msata16d SSD (Phison PS3109).
Is it wise to enable TRIM with pfSense and this msata drive? (touch /root/TRIM_set)

Anyone have any experience with this?

        I have an APU14D with a msata16d SSD (Phison PS3109)

Where you was buying the mSATA drive? Direct from the Varia-Store?
        16 GB mSATA

Is it wise to enable TRIM with pfSense and this msata drive? (touch /root/TRIM_set)

Normally yes, because the mSATA or also SSD drvie will more and more slow down how longer it is in
usage, because the data are not market for rewriting.

Anyone have any experience with this?

Yes there are three different versions of mSATA drives the Varia-store is selling.
Two mSATA drives are supporting TRIM and one not!

        • PC Engines 16 GB mSATAd SSD module - is not supporting TRIM
        • 16 GB Transcend - is supporting TRIM
        • 32 GB Transcend - is supporting TRIM

And on the PC Engines 16 GB mSATA SSD module is a chip shown with printed on the following:
"Phison PS3109-S9-J" likes the mSATA you are asking here and this mSATA is not supporting TRIM!

I bought my package at Miniserver.it (LINK)
I have the PC Engines msata16d drive which has a label that says: Phison PS3109-S9-J.

But looking at the spec/data sheet of the Phison PS3109 it should support TRIM…?
          http://www.phison.com/edit55big5/uploadfile/PS3109%20mSATA%20simplified%20datasheet.pdf

Also the website does say it supports TRIM...?

          [UPDATE]
I have enabled trim on the msata16d (Phison PS3109-S9-J) with the following command: "/sbin/tunefs -t enable /". (performed in single user).
          If I do a "tunefs -p /" I get: trim enabled.

For me there was no need to edit the loader.conf.local file. So I did not add ahci_load="YES" to the file.
I don't know why but it was not needed for me.

Is it wise to add the line after all?

The loader.conf.local is only a fall back for your self!
If you update or upgrade your pfSense all specific settings going to be lost,
but with a loader.conf.local there will survive the update/upgrade process!

For TRIM support I get my informations from here:

I know what the loader.conf.local file does.
But I do not have the ahci_load="YES" line in either the loader.conf or loader.conf.local.

So my question is do I really need to line after all, even when trim is working without the line at the moment.
