Factory reset has no effect (ALIX 2D.13)
-
Hi there,
I wanted to factory reset pfSense 2.2.4 on my ALIX 2D.13 (installed on CF card), but for some reason the process is not really working as I expect it to be.
When selecting "Factory reset" in either the WebGUI or SSH, the box reboots and then shows the initial configuration wizard… but my configuration is still there, i.e. firewall rules, certificates, etc.
Basically, the factory reset has no effect whatsoever :(I already changed the "Media Read/Write Status" in Diagnostics->NanoBSD from "read-only" to "read/write" + "keep media mounted rw at all times" (as I thought that maybe there would be some problem in overwriting configuration files). Unfortunately, this does not change the situation.
The problem is that I currently do not have any serial cable lying around, so I would prefer if I could get the factory reset working with SSH or the WebGUI. :-\
Thanks in advance for your help!
Regards,

Is the default factory config still present in /conf.default/config.xml, or was that overwritten somehow by one of your own?
If that file is still there, is it still OK? try "xmllint /conf.default/config.xml" – If that spits out the whole .xml file it's OK, but if it outputs an error then that's the problem. The behavior your are seeing would normally only happen if that file is missing or corrupt in some way.
