PFSENSE can't connect to the internet using PPPoE
-
Hi,
I'm having a rather strange problem with pfSense. It seems to be pfSense related as I can make a PPPoE connection using both my Mac and Windows systems going through the same modem.
Basically, my desired setup is as follows:
ISP –> Modem (Draytek Vigor 130) --> proxmox --> pfsense
At the moment I'm currently connected (to post this, as follows)
ISP --> Modem --> Windows PC using PPPoE connection
So basically I passthrough the NIC on proxmox which is connected to the modem (eth2/vmbr2) to pfsense (en0). I'm then setting this as the WAN adapter, and then telling pfsense to connect using PPPoE but it doesn't seem to be able to connect at all. I keep getting these logs:
Sep 30 22:00:36 pfSense ppp: [wan_link0] LCP: Down event Sep 30 22:00:36 pfSense ppp: [wan_link0] Link: reconnection attempt 26 in 3 seconds Sep 30 22:00:39 pfSense ppp: [wan_link0] Link: reconnection attempt 26 Sep 30 22:00:39 pfSense ppp: [wan_link0] PPPoE: Connecting to '' Sep 30 22:00:48 pfSense ppp: [wan_link0] PPPoE connection timeout after 9 seconds Sep 30 22:00:48 pfSense ppp: [wan_link0] Link: DOWN event Sep 30 22:00:48 pfSense ppp: [wan_link0] LCP: Down event Sep 30 22:00:48 pfSense ppp: [wan_link0] Link: reconnection attempt 27 in 4 seconds Sep 30 22:00:52 pfSense ppp: [wan_link0] Link: reconnection attempt 27 Sep 30 22:00:52 pfSense ppp: [wan_link0] PPPoE: Connecting to ''
But as I already said, I can just unplug the cable from the back of my server and into my PC, and then through that (with the same username/password) connect using PPPoE without any hassle.
Has anyone had these problems before, or is able to offer any assistance? I'm more than happy to provide more info if it'll help!
Cheers!

Looks like the physical NIC you're plugging into isn't connected to the VM's WAN NIC. No replies to the PPPoE attempts. If you had any functional connectivity, it'd come back with something other than just a complete timeout.

Thanks cmb, your post encouraged me to go back and relabel my NICs.. surprisingly enough, after spending a while troubleshooting (before I posted this) I must have become confused and got them all mixed up.. After re-labling them all I then passed them all through correctly and it seems to be working for now!
Thanks again!
