Upgrade from 2.1 to 2.2.4 is taking too long
-
Hello eveyone.
I initiated an upgrade of our pfsense 2.1 to 2.2.4 since October 6, 2015 and uptill today October 8, 2015 it is yet to finish.
I have a WAN, LAN and WIFI ports but the WIFI is working(we can browse though WIFI) while the LAN is not working. When i view the pfsense dashboard, it shows "packages are currently been reinstalled in the background" and also displays "pfsense has detected a crash report or programming bug". It has been like this for more than two days now so i wouldnt know if something has gone wrong.
However, we can access the internet via the WIFI while is going through the LAN. We have 1 internet link. Attached is the screen shot of the pfsense dashboard. The CPU usage though hovers around 65 to 99% but what exactly the system is doing i cannot tell.
Where did i go wrong or is this normal? For how long more can i wait if this is normal?
Thanks for all your inputs

Not normal. I would reboot the box and then go to Diagnostics - Backup/Restore and click the Reinstall packages button.

If i reboot, will the pfsense come up fully? what exactly could be the problem?

Who knows? You certainly won't make any progress just letting it sit there. Before you reboot, make sure you have a valid backup.xml file (Diagnostics - Backup/Restore). That way, if it dies on reboot then you can reinstall fresh and reload your config from the backup file.

Some kind of problem during reinstallation of one of your packages. Can't say more with the info given.

From the documentation I've read, it's usually best to remove all packages before you run an in-place upgrade. Once the upgrade finishes, you then re-install the packages you need. Judging from the number of posts like these I've seen, I can understand why.

So please what do you suggest i do now? I did a backup before the upgrade.
Thanks

Just go to Diag>Backup/restore, click the "clear package lock" button, then click the "reinstall packages" button and you'll be fine.

Does the Clear Package Lock button only appear when a package is being installed, or is there some other trigger like a hung process or something? I checked for that before I replied since Dok had mentioned it previously and I don't have that button. I've never seen that button.
