Pfsense hardware in South Africa
-
Hi all,
We are replacing our old Pfsense box and I have been tasked with setting up our new rig. The old rig was built on an AMD64 desktop setup which has 4x NIC's for our various needs, the rig operates fine but the hardware is really old and we have had some problems with it such as the on-board lan stopped working and the rig would freeze during the POST when switched on.
We have a medium sized office of about 45 individuals.
Preferably I would love to replace the rig with an SG-2440 or SG-4860 but I am unable to find any suppliers in South Africa?
I could import it myself but that would just increase my TCO and I don't want that.So my question: Do any of you know a supplier in South Africa that would be able to assist me?
Thank you.
Regards

Ok this can be done by a SG-2440 for sure!
But then on top 1 GBit/s, Snort, Squid, SquidGuard, HAVP strong VPN and several other installed
packets you should be also coming closer to the point what exactly the pfSense should be doing
and which services would be offered to this office. -

Thanks for the reply, I had a look on the world wide partners site and found one partner that is in Cape Town South Africa, their website is basically non existent but will see if I can get a hold of anyone.
I will be running the following services on the firewall:
. Gateway group for WAN fail-over
. Traffic shaping by queues
. Various traffic monitoring packages
. Squid proxy server
. Squid guard filter
. Lightsquid - reporting
. snort (planning to implement it at a later stage)Regards

. Gateway group for WAN fail-overPlease go with load balancing the fail over will be integrated then!
. Traffic shaping by queues
. Various traffic monitoring packagesOk
. Squid proxy server
. Squid guard filter
. Lightsquid - reportingthen you will better go with a SSD or mSATA!
. snort (planning to implement it at a later stage)
- 4 GB till 8 GB RAM would be better then to go with.
- Please install Squid then better as a transparent proxy server.
Jetway 5 Intel GB LAN Ports would be sufficient for the job also and for much more!

Thanks BlueKobold, I will take all of this into consideration before purchasing anything and setting my Firewall up.
