      Hi All,

I have this issue with PPPoE that has been driving me mad.

      I'm currently running 2.2.4-RELEASE (amd64) but have tried 2.2.3 and 2.2.2.

The pfsense device is connected directly to the ISPs NTU and Trying to dial via PPPoE but it doesn't get an IP address.

Here are the PPP logs from the pfsense:

Nov 1 18:51:33 ppp: [wan_link0] Link: DOWN event
Nov 1 18:51:33 ppp: [wan_link0] LCP: Down event
      Nov 1 18:51:33 ppp: [wan_link0] Link: reconnection attempt 72 in 2 seconds
      Nov 1 18:51:35 ppp: [wan_link0] Link: reconnection attempt 72
      Nov 1 18:51:35 ppp: [wan_link0] PPPoE: Connecting to ''
Nov 1 18:51:44 ppp: [wan_link0] PPPoE connection timeout after 9 seconds
Nov 1 18:51:44 ppp: [wan_link0] Link: DOWN event
Nov 1 18:51:44 ppp: [wan_link0] LCP: Down event
      Nov 1 18:51:44 ppp: [wan_link0] Link: reconnection attempt 73 in 4 seconds
      Nov 1 18:51:48 ppp: [wan_link0] Link: reconnection attempt 73
      Nov 1 18:51:48 ppp: [wan_link0] PPPoE: Connecting to ''

      Logs from General logs:

Nov 1 18:38:03 php-fpm[47370]: /rc.filter_configure_sync: Could not find IPv4 gateway for interface (wan).
Nov 1 18:38:03 php-fpm[47370]: /rc.filter_configure_sync: Could not find IPv4 gateway for interface (wan).
Nov 1 18:38:03 php-fpm[47370]: /rc.filter_configure_sync: Could not find IPv4 gateway for interface (wan).
Nov 1 18:38:03 php-fpm[47370]: /rc.filter_configure_sync: Could not find IPv4 gateway for interface (wan).
Nov 1 18:38:03 php-fpm[47370]: /rc.filter_configure_sync: Could not find IPv4 gateway for interface (wan).

The WAN interface says it's disabled on the dashboard

The ISP has confirmed that all settings are correct on their end and they can see the pfsense connected to their NTU.

I have tried setting up the WAN interface with PPPoE as well as create the PPP dialer then attach it to the WAN interface but still no go.

Hopefully someone has come across this before.

Let me know if you need more info.

Have you connected successfully using another firewall or router device?

Try a factory reset and then run the setup wizard, select pppoe & just enter username/password…nothing else. Also try modem off/on.

          Thanks for the reply pf3000

I have swapped the hardware that the pfsense is on and started the config from scratch but still no go.

I tested the same hardware and pfsense config on another pppoe connection (different provider) and it worked fine.

The ISP told me they couldn't see any authentication attemps from the pfsense.

I was reading forums where there could be issues with mac spoofing onthe WAN with some ISPs but didn't fully get it.

I'll give it a shot with a different router to see if it's an ISP issue.

was it working earlier ? with which device?
if it was working with pfsense and your pfsense is wokring on another ppoe then the ntu might be the culprit .. have you tried to ask them to change the port on ntu ?

also can you try connecting the cable to any pc (windows ?) and configure ppoe and try connecting if it works ?

if it was working on another device and nwo you introduced pfsense then you should give mac spoofing a try..
