How to integrate pfSense

I have your typically home network. Now I wish to integrate pfSense. I have installed/configured a machine with pfSense/Squid3/Squidguard.
What I wish to do is to test the pfSense (to install it later at a school).
I want to be able to pull up a browser on my computer, Google "porn" and be blocked.
If I attach the pfSense to my network, by plugging in 2 Ethernet cables, I lose all Internet activity… I can still log into the pfSense.
To attach the pfSense I simply utilized a 5 port switch and took the Ethernet cable from my computer and plugged it into the switch. I then ran a cable from the switch to my computer and two into the pfSense.

The typical setup is: your pfSEnse device is acting as a router. (because it is, among others, a router).
So, hook your PC's to a switch.
The same switch to pfSense (the NIC you (and pfSense) labeled LAN) - ONE cable of course.
The other NIC (that is labeled WAN) to your box that handles your 'Internet' connection - this could be another "Router", fibre-box, ADSL, whatever ..)Minimal basic setup requires that your 'set up' the WAN connection settings.
And then …. it works.

It seems like you are plugging in both of the ports on your pfsense router to the same switch?
