Computer guests are prompted for password, smartphone guests are not

we have a new install at our company where if a guest logs in with their computer they are prompted to enter a password but when using a phone they bypass the PW requirement.
any suggestions?

maybe if you gave some actual clue to what you are doing maybe we could help.. Guessing captive portal? Wired or wireless? Actually using pfsense??

and is that what you want to happen?
or is that what is happening and you want something different to happen? -
How is your wireless configured? Using an access point or a consumer router in router mode?
If the latter all wireless users will be "authenticated" after the first user logs in because they all appear to the captive portal as the same IP/MAC pair.
