Soekris Net5501 with VPN1411

So far, so good with the Net5501 433MHz 256MB and the VPN1411 card embedded on a CF card running PF 1.2RC2. I set it up on a business cable modem 10mb/1mb, with 3 vpns going to other offices with the same connections. There is a 2003 terminal server at the main location, and 2 pos computers and a network based printer at each of the other locations. The processor is averaging about 5% with an average of about 95 kb/s usage and peaks of around 1.2 mb/s. Next I need to pick up 2 of the 500MHz 512MB versions and do some real throughput testing.

Keep us in the loop for your tests as I am looking for a good, light (low energy consumption) hardware for Pfsense. I thought about Soekris but some friends had some problems that fried the boards and I became somewhat worried about it.

Just wanted to give an update…
I haven't had time to do any more testing yet, but it's been up and running for 3 weeks now. The new boards are soooo much faster than the old 266 MHz boards. Here's my throughput testing on them. I'll try to get to some more testing on these new boards soon. I'm hoping they will at least double the throughput.
