POE switch

Hi Guys,
we need to buy a Switch supports POE 24 ports GB to use it on ESXI 6.0 using pfsense for VLAN
any suggestions which one to use ?
something affordable until 400 $

I worked with other TP-Link gear in the past (like TL-SG5424) and separate PoE injectors.
Never had a single problem with those devices.

Just be sure the switch you select provides POE on the full complement of ports you require it on.  Many of them only have POE on about half the ports.

also check their noise output in the datasheet.
most 24p PoE switches need active cooling. (= fans = noise)

if this is going in a datacabinet in a hallway, then this is no issue. If this cabinet is inside someone's office, unplug their phone  ;)

agree most of them have the POE just on half ports.
is TP link recommended ? actually never worded with them.

Though TP-Link is not a top-notch brand I haven't seen any problems with their gear.
I use 5 or 6 of their switches at home for years now and 1 TL-SG5412F as fiber-concentrator in a CCTV install (police surveillance in a stadium).

I visited their CeBIT stand this year and was quite impressed. Knowledgeable people, enthusiastic engineers, good plan for future products. Typical underdog I'd say.

Based on reviews that I've read, TP-Link makes good hardware but sketchy software. Just make sure you keep a backup of your configs. They have a lot of good reviews on their home network gear.

So how many actual POE devices??  Are you going to be running say phones or lots of AP off the poe switch??  If you only have a couple of devices it most likely cheaper to just use injectors.

Also keep in mind that higher-end  access points (802.11ac with multiple streams) require higher power than standard PoE supplies.

^ valid point.. Want to make sure that the poe device your using is using a poe standard, might be poe+ for example.. Unifi new stuff I think adheres to the poe standards… But before their APs did not.. So you need to use their poe switches or the injectors they provided.

You would hope you could just buy any poe switch and use it with any device that says it is poe, but sadly that is not always the case.. Better to check before laying out cash for a poe switch and or device just to find out they don't play nice with each other ;)

Also along the power train of thought.  Many switches have a PoE power budget so even if x ports support PoE they can't all simultaneously run at full power.  So need to understand the switches PoE power budget and the draw of the devices being powered.
