Currently my Wan is 64 down and 4.5 up. (I pay for60/4)

I not 100% what packages I'll run, but l'll list some.

      For sure OpenVPN Server
      Havp
      PFblocker
      Snort

I'm the only full time user of this. Friends that come over will be on wifi doing standard stuff on their phone or laptop.

I've been looking at the Intel D2500CCE platform, looking to be kind of dated now, but is there a better option than that now? I don't see this handling a GB Wan connection, but will it be able to do 200 mbps?

      Additional things that might matter:
      I run a plex server
      Run TS server
Run a couple game servers on occasion.

ok, let's start with what you are looking at

If you're looking at snort - is suricata an option?
HAVP is very resource intensive - why not have this client side if you're basically the only user?

I guess suricata could be an option, I really don't know. My main reason to build this is to teach myself more about networking and security.

Yeah, I suppose I don't Need HAVP. I just use windows defender on all my computers.

Do you have any old hardware to sacrifice to the cause?

Really if all you are doing is experimenting, even an old laptop will suffice
