Calling all users!!

The FreeBSD foundation is nearing the end of the year and it is seriously short of its meager goals. Why don't you give a little and help make FreeBSD even better.

Happy Holidays

Agreed.
Does anyone know how funding is divvied up to the different FreeBSD projects? Anywhere I can do some reading up on it? No real reason, just curious how they decide who gets funding and how much they get.
-
I have to admit I don't know how funds are allocated. I would guess the foundation Board of Directors evaluates submitted proposals and funds what they can. I imagine they would have to balance distribution between developer grants and FreeBSD conferences and of-course overhead.

I don't see anything saying that in writing though. This is typically how foundations work. -
$25 sent.

I would say that the standards for evaluating projects falls at different levels.
Here lists some criteria of what they are looking for Google SOC.
https://www.freebsd.org/projects/summerofcode.htmlHere is a reviewers remarks about submissions
http://www.koszek.com/blog/2012/04/27/freebsd_good_proposal/
Note he is not a director or core team. This is just the Google SOC proposals. So some proposals probably go through low level review for submission upstream to the so called Hats. These are not core members but specialists in their area. They probably push good proposals to the core team. The core team is the Board of Directors.
That's my 4 hour read of it!!

OK -I Did the same. That makes $125 for the year….Still less than what Windows costs!!!
Had to put my money where my mouth was!!

So all this comes from the FreeBSD books.

Unfortunately I've donated all I can for the year. Next donation won't be possible until the end of January.
Thanks for the update @Phishfry

Unfortunately, I have not done this ever/yet. Now that my wife and I are no longer having to eat ramen, we're going to discuss this topic. FreeBSD and OpenBSD. Two good investments.
