SG 2220 vs Netgate RCC-DFF 2220
-
Hi everyone. Sorry to jump right in with the possibly obvious questions but I'm right on the edge of making a purchase decision and i need to confirm.
It looks like the Netgate RCC-DFF 2220 is quite literally the exact same hardware listed in the pfsense store page for the SG 2220. Is there ANY benefit to spending the extra $25 other than pfsense coming pre-installed and configured?
I'm not new to pfsense and I'm an IT professional by trade but if there are any nuances about the install that are best left to the real pfsense pros to handle then I'd gladly fork over the extra dosh to have it come shipped ready to go. On the other hand, if all they do is run the install procedure step for step as seen here (https://www.netgate.com/docs/c2758-with-pfsense/index.html) then I'd rather handle that myself.
Thoughts?

If you are going to run pfSense, it is probably a good idea to buy the SG-2220, because the extra cost goes to support development of pfSense.
Of course, you don't have to, but the past few years of computer security news show the danger of failing to support critical free software projects (OpenSSL, NTP, etc).
Plus the SG-2220 purchase includes some level of support that is not included with the RCC-DFF 2220. I'm not sure exactly what is included.

Thanks. Supporting the project is why I'm definitely leaning towards getting an SG from the store. I think I already know the answer to my question (that there is no difference and I'll probably come out cheaper just getting it from Netgate). I'm just the type that likes to know everything before I make a decision. Even if I've all but already made it.

Gotta say, I don't mind supporting the project but I would be remiss if I didn't mention for others considering it that when you order from teh store you should expect some delay since I imagine they are drop-shipping it.
Mine sat in fulfillment for 3 business days then shipped yesterday. So now the device I paid extra to get 2 day shipping on will be in transit for 5 days. I get this is that time of year and the holidays screw up online commerce royally. Just was hoping that since I ordered this after Christmas they'd see we were on a short week and try to get my order processed so I could get it this week.
Oh well… :(
