Automate Bootup After UPS Shutdown
-
I have FreeNAS, Ubuntu Server, ESXI, and PfSense running on my network. I am implementing a UPS into the rack in the next week and plan to have NUT running on all of my servers so that upon power loss NUT will tell all of the servers to shut down. This does not seem like it will be that complicated. What I want to implement is an auto startup. I think that WoL is the way to go for this. I want to implement a script that will run either when pFsense boots or if there is a loss of connectivity.
Has anyone had experience with this or an idea for me to run down?
The main reason I want this is I am in the military and leave for extended periods of time. My wife has no idea how to the network runs so I want something that is seamless for her. I am getting a pFsense Appliance that should auto boot when power is restored and my switches and other gear will power on when the power returns it is just freeNAS, Ubuntu and ESXi that would need this functionality.
Thanks for any help!

a lot of Bios' support something like 'auto_power_on after power failure'
would be a lot easier then messing with scripts

I am using this function now on all of my servers. I am not sure if it still functions if the system is properly shutdown prior to power failure.
I could be wrong on this but I think if the system already powered off this won't power it up when power is restored.

Actually it will. I have it setup like this. Power has to be off at least 25 seconds so that green led on mobo dies. Then it will power on. If led dont die out it will not power on…

Well that makes it easy, after I get the UPS setup and installed I will have to check this out.
