Smp kernel issue

I've installed 1.2 rc2 with smp kernel on a pentiun D dual core box; I'd like to know how do I see/verify when pfsense is using both processors???
thanks

I don't believe there is anything directly in the web GUI to display the number of processors running but you can select 'shell' (selection 8 ) then type the command 'top' (without the single quotes) and display the information. There is a column labeled "C" which means CPU of there are more than one cpu in the system. To exit the top command enter 'q' then type exit to get back to the pfsense menu. This can be done remotely as well using ssh…
My dev system is running on an AMD dual core machine and it displays the C column with either the number 0 or 1 for the process displayed which indicates which cpu core is running the process currently - they do toggle too (grin)...

or another way to do this:
from the webgui, go to "Command Prompt" under Diagnostics and type in:
dmesg | grep cpu
This should give you a cpu list, and if you have a list of cpu0 and cpu1, then you'll know that pfsense is seeing both of the cores from your processor. The above command can also be typed in the command shell if you ssh into your box (option 8).
enjoy :)

Very true - you will see if pfsense is detecting the processor cores but the question was to see if the cores were actually being used - the top command will show it whereas the dmesg will only show they were detected. :)
