Since the pinned thread and linked document is locked, I ask here instead.

      first question:
Its not clear what a "modification" is. If a un-modified pfSense is installed on a device, and then a custom configuration is applied, eg firewall rules, interface config, IP numbers, settings, etc, eg, everything that can be done by the GUI or "restoring from a backup config" in GUI.
Does this count as a "modified pfSense" then?

      second question:
official packages that are installed through the packages menu - do these count as modification to the final product?

I think these 2 should be clarified in the document "Can I sell pfsense".

Applying settings and/or packages does in no way modify pfSense.

pfSense is open source. You can grab the sources and recompile it yourself. What you have compiled must not be called pfSense any more and it must not contain the logo, wordmark, etc.

What you are talking about are setup services you wanna offer. Charge for hardware and your time, not the pfSense bits. They are not yours (but I'm unsure if that would even be allowed by the BSD license. I'd call it bad taste at least.)

The question was just that, if a un-modified pfSense with a applied, custom configuration, may be called pfSense or not.
Same question with official packages. (this is a separate question).

            Great, I answered that already.

Applying settings and/or packages does in no way modify pfSense.

If I was misled by your reference to the document "Can I sell pfsense" then I apology!
