Just got a quote for the CUSTOM, A1SRi-2758F, 505-203B

      2x4gb ram
      80 gb SSD

$1126. Complete build.  Just need to deploy pfSense.  This unit includes a 3 year onsite warranty from Supermicro.

Curious what others think about the value of the onsite NBD warranty considering the importance of a firewall and its critical need in an office environment.  I am getting ready to deploy to 9 offices.

The other option would be to buy 1-2 extra to have them on standby….

Most firewall vendors like Sonicwall, Fortinet, Cisco etc provide 3 year nbd and 3 year 4 hour replacement.

Just got a quote for the CUSTOM,
        here in Germany able to get for;
        A1SRi-2758F,  ~400 €
        505-203B ~150 €
        2x4gb ram ~120 €
        80 gb SSD ~80 €
All in all, in total ~750 € = $827 and the rest of $299 is for 3 years of NBD warranty, ok
if you want to go with this it could be a real chance.

$1126. Complete build.  Just need to deploy pfSense.  This unit includes a 3 year onsite warranty from Supermicro.

But perhaps this would be running longer in the offices as you might be expecting from.

How long is the distance between your point and the offices? How short you are able to get your hands
        on a device such the C2558 unit? As I see it right it would be 9 x saving $299 = $2691 : 827 = 3 extra
spare units you are able to hold for a break! Together with the config backup and system backup or cloning
the whole SSD into an Image on a USB HDD or USB RDX device this might be then only some clicks to restore
all and so it is not really to answer what to do! if you get the information, that one unit fails at the weekend
and you are flexible to go there with ease and fast you could solve this issue also really fast, they could work
on monday morning as nothing where happen. But if you are at the east coast and all offices are on the west
coast of the USA it will be perhaps better to go with the NBD warranty.

The other option would be to buy 1-2 extra to have them on standby….

Also very interesting but as I see it right this is only fine if all offices are near you or around
        your point of presence.

Most firewall vendors like Sonicwall, Fortinet, Cisco etc provide 3 year nbd and 3 year 4 hour replacement.

But not for less then money, because this is their business and you pay for this devices also really hard for the
licenses for anything else, likes malware scan, email scan, http scan, antispam, web proxy and so on.

Surely they are updating their signature files hourly and they came with more then 1.000.000 entries
and what ever else, surely, but not for less money too!

My main reason for this question is because most of the time when you sell a firewall to a customer there is an expectation of warranty and support for the unit.  PfSense does not offer this with their product from what I have seen so I only purchased one from them.  When the price for the customer and myself is the same I become hesitant to sell a solution in which I end up carrying the burden of being responsible for replacing it.

The onsite warrant eleviates that concern.

For me to source parts would be about a week as no one has this stuff locally where I am.

I am an MSP and looking at selling this as part of a bundled service to customers.  I think with the time required to source parts, wait for delivery, build time I am better off just buying the units with warranty.  I can always give the option of lower warranty period as they offer 1,2,3 year options.

Curious what others charge either annually or monthly to maintain, support and replace pfSense firewalls.

And with regards to supporting the software I think I could just buy a 5 pack of incidents as a backup and spread those across all the firewalls in the event I need them.  It did not look like their support incidents were device specific.
