WAP setup with pfsense
-
Forgive me if this is in the wrong section.
I recently installed pfsense for the first time, and have the wired stuff working. I've got a dual NIC small pc from amazon, with a "smart" switch and then the AP, linked to respectively below.
Pfsense box - http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00OY8Q0QC
Netgear switch - http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003KP8VSK
Xclaim WAP - http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00OZ9IP6IThe setup is modem -> wan interface on pfsense box, then (lan interface)-> switch -> computers / WAP
If any of you are familiar with the cloudmanger that Xclaim uses, I can access and configure the AP through that. It'll reset, reboot, and change settings but I just can't see any SSID to connect to no matter what I do.
I don't really know much at all about networking so I don't really know what to do next. I found a few threads about having the WAP on the same network as the pfsense box (I don't have any VLANs or any seperate networks). The pfsense IP is the default 192.168.1.1, and everything else on the network shows up (under dhcp leases) as something in the 192.168.1.10* range.
I'm running snort, pfblockerng, and squid with no changes to default if it makes any difference.
Any help would be appreciated.

This is probably outside the scope of this forum, as not seeing the SSID broadcast of your Xclaim device doesn't really tie into anything related to pfsense.
Out of curiosity, is there a chance that you have the XClaim unit set to not broadcast the SSID? Are you able to locate the access point in your DHCP pool? It has a web interface I believe, so try using that instead of the cloudmanager to configure.

Yes, I did apply my network setting to the access point. I believe the AP is setup correctly, and I've reset and applied settings multiple times.
I posted here because I thought there might have been something I needed to do in pfsense that I either didn't do, or did incorrectly. To configure the AP there is only the web enabled cloudmanager, and the smartphone app.
I will post over there on their forums and see if I messed something up AP wise.

"but I just can't see any SSID to connect to no matter what I do."
That would have nothing to do with pfsense. Common issues I have seen with this sort of symptom is the client isn't on the same band. For example if your only broadcasting on N 5ghz and AC which is only 5ghz and your client is only 2.4 or even only G or B etc..
But pfsense would have NOTHING to do with some client seeing a SSID a AP is suppose to broadcast. Now if your AP could not talk to your cloud management - maybe a firewall issue to get to the internet for the AP… But you clearly stated that is working and the AP resets, etc..

when you reset the xclaim ap to factory default do you see the ssid XCLAIM SETUP? I am running xclaim APs with pfsense with no problems at all I also set them up with vlans and they work great with pfsense
