      Hi all,

I have a bit of an issue where I cannot access the NAS drive over the lan, it doesn't appear in the network shares in Windows, however I can login to the WebUI and I can ping and get a response.

      The setup is essentially

cable modem (modem only) –- pfsense --- wired/wireless switch - wireless devices & wired NAS drive.

I'm sure it's probably a rule I am missing somewhere to allow that sort of access, however I can't see anything in the firewall log that says it's blocked any packets to/from the NAS IP.

The only other consideration is that I have OpenVPN client running which serves the LAN, however the NAS along with some other devices are within an alias that route through the non-openvpn gateway.

If someone could shed some light on this I would really appreciate it.

      edit -

even with the openvpn client disabled I face the same issue.

Is your network drive a CIFS share?

Same-subnet traffic is completely unrelated to firewall rules. The firewall is not involved at all.

This is a Windows issue. Discovery in Windows is sketchy at best.
