Install third NIC and I lose WAN connection
-
Probably re-numbers one or all of your existing NICs, so you'll need to reassign interfaces or move cables.
-
Tried that already and it didn't do any good. The WAN connection goes down and the new NIC goes up and if I swap the interfaces they do the same thing. The onboard NIC isn't affected at all just the two on the same PCI bus.

I ordered this to see if it'll fix my issue. Intel EXPI9404PTLBLK-1PK PRO/1000PT 4PORT - OEM SINGLE 10/100/1000 GBE PCIE LP QUAD NIC.

Do a config backup to a config.xml file insert the card and do a fresh install, then create a copy of this config.xml
file and edit it, change now the interface numbers and play back the config. -
I went to install a third NIC in my PFsense server and when I do I lose my WAN connection. I remove the third card and everything works fine. I have an onboard NIC and a PCI-E NIC installed in a 1X slot. I am trying to install the third card in the 1X slot right below it. Any ideas? Reason for the third NIC is to put my wireless on the DMZ.
After you change or add NIC cards, your first step should be to co into the command line via a keyboard and mouse connected directly to the unit and reassign your interfaces followed by modifying the changed interface to add static or DHCP address.
Whenever you change cards, pfsense doesn't just move things around automatically and the webconfigurator sometimes doesn't work well when changing interfaces because your are connecting via the interfaces.

I went into the command line and tried reassigning the interfaces and that didn't work. I will try to get a backup and then install the card an do a fresh install to see if that works. Thanks for the reply.

One further troubleshooting step, perhaps try removing the newly added NIC and see if everything is OK again.
If it is OK, the add back the new card while removing one of the others (stay at two NICs).
That could help diagnose a potentially bad NIC.

Just to be sure, did you use command line via SSH or did connect a mouse and key board and use it that way

I have a mouse and keyboard attached and went into the command line that way.

The 4-port Intel NIC fixed the issue.
