DNS Instead of LAN IP
-
Hi guys,
Can anyone help me on this.. I want to access the database on specific PC on my local network but instead of using the LAN IP Address of the PC, I want to use a DNS instead. E.G. mycomputer.office.com instead of 192.168.1.3 How to I set this up on my pfsense version 2.3?
Thanks in advance guys.

Services > DNS Resolver Host override

Noob question here. But does the DNS should be a verified working DNS or it can be something I made up.

You can host override any hostname/domain name (FQDN). Most people use something like host.local if they don't have a registered domain.
Of course it'll only work locally.

I'm really sorry. But can you give me a sample set up say i have this IP 192.168.1.3 and i want to access its datebase using this dns server.office.com

already did the same set up. I should have a ping on server.office.com right?

Your LAN hosts need to be pointed at pfSense for DNS.
