[Resolved] How to deal with VLANs from ISP
-
Hi Guys…
I have a client who is streaming video content from encoder to decoder at broadcast location. ISP says they will provide split VLANs.
Vlan 10 for internet at main location and Vlan 20 for his LAN at main location and at remote location.
How do I deal with this in pfSense?
At some point do I need a switch?
Thanks, Jits

When you add a VLAN, it shows up as a new interface. Treat it like a separate NIC.

Hi,
Ok, I understand the untagged portion, but is the wan port acting as a trunk port? How can I separate the tagged vlans from the untagged ones coming from the WAN port?
I don't see anything in pfSense that deals with "tagged" and "untagged" traffic.
I would have to put a switch in front of pfSense?

you need to read up on vlans.
untagged from isp = normal interface (forget about it being a vlan, for your client it ISNT)
for tagged vlan
you add the vlan to your parent (wan) using interfaces->assign->vlan
then you assign an interface to that vlan using interfaces->assign | click the dropdown and select parentinterface_VLANx & click "add"now you have an new OPT interface. configure it as you wish/need

Ok, thanks Heper, just needed a little guidance. That will do. Thanks much again. :-)
