SuperMicro A1SRI-2358F

Hello,
Looking to build my first pfsense box and was considering the sg-2220 or sg-2440. However being from Canada the exchange and duty really adds up making these expensive. Ideally I'd want the sg-2440 for the future Intel Quickassit support.
Has anyone yet looked into the new SuperMicro A1SRI-2358F motherboard with the Atom C2358? Nobody seems to have stock yet but I already see one Canadian online retailer listing this board for $244CDN making this very appealing to me. When I add the cost of the chassis/psu,memory and ssd it very close to the cost of the sg-2220 for me here In Canada, but has the specs of the sg-2440. Maybe I'm missing something?

Interesting offering, but a little late to the party. Does look like a good board for a low power build as long as the price is right.
Can't seem to find it for sale anywhere….....

Go with a Supermicro A1SRi-2558 instead of the C2358 variant and all would be fine for you.

It might be strong as the SG-2440, with more and faster RAM capabilities and 2 more CPU cores.
You can´t do anything wrong with this board in my eyes according to pfSense. -
I received the A1SRi-2558F this week and setup pfSense on it. Everything is working great. Thanks again.

Where did you find it? My old rig died so I'm in the market to get something soon and I'd really like to get this board.

I have about 9 A1SRi-2558F in use. Stable, low power and quite fast.
Can't understand the market for a A1SRi-2358F.
Con:
- Single Channel
- Only 2 Cores
Pro:
- Low power
- MAYBE Cheap
After many A1SRi-2558F and A1SRi-2758F i can't see why i should take the A1SRi-2358F in consideration ;)
And with the 8 and 16 core boards on the horizon 2 core is "sooo 90s" :D

afaik, the first (commercial) multi-core cpu's from intel/amd emerged only around a decade ago …. well into the nillies

$50 cheaper than the C2558, lower power consumption and slow internet access that will likely never exceed the capabilities of this board.

You mean C2358 suitable for slow internet access? Nope.
Considering the Pentium 1037U, also a dual core processor with similar clock speed, is already able to handle 1000Mbps WAN-LAN NAT with about 50% CPU usage only, I wouldn't see how slow this C2358 will be.I would say if one is not going to add complicated functionality concerning CPU power to this setup (e.g. intercepting proxy like HAVP), I don't see why can't we just save the $50 for other purposes.

Sorry, I should have clarified that I was talking about my slow internet access. The C2558 is overkill for my needs due to my slow internet access.
The SuperMicro A1SRI-2358F fits my needs perfectly now and in the future. About the only thing I wish it had that it doesn't is a msata slot for an SSD but that's not a deal breaker for me either.
