I went from my pfSense to my Desktop and got internet.

I was able to ping out and I'm still able to ping the gateway.

I try connecting on PS4 to the internet and I cannot get any internet, it keeps failing and it won't let me connect. But when I go from my switch I can get internet.

I have everything setup manually and it just can't grab internet. I have it setup as a second LAN "OPT1".

Maybe I'm missing some rules or something, I have no clue at this point. Hopefully someone can help me, thanks.

make sure UPnP is enabled. PS4 and XBOX require it. Also check your NAT rules for the LAN interface to ensure you have then setup correctly. Lastly. In plug the power and NIC cords from your PS4 for 15 minutes to allow its system cache to clear properly. Then plug it back in.

"make sure UPnP is enabled. PS4 and XBOX require it."

No they don't… It might make it easier for you to get forward ports, but they sure and the hell do not require UPnP to get on the internet.

Unplug nic for 15 minutes for cache?  So when does he sacrifice the goat?  Because that makes as about as much sense ;)

So you are using a new opt interface, did you create rules?  Pfsense out of the box put a any any rule on LAN, but if you bring up new interface then you would have to create your rules.. Just create any any like you have on lan until you figure out what you want to do.

Did you enable dhcp on this new opt1 interface?

          @johnpoz:

My Friend, I never said this. What I said was POWER AND NIC. This removes all power sources from your game console.

          @johnpoz:

"make sure UPnP is enabled. PS4 and XBOX require it."

No they don't… It might make it easier for you to get forward ports, but they sure and the hell do not require UPnP to get on the internet.

Me being a PS4 user. I do have experience with this.  For UPNP,  if you check the connection status on the PS4, it will show you the PS4 UPNP status. UPNP is a requirement of XBOX live and PSN to use voice chat in game. For the PSN 4 specifically, when you turn the PS4 on, and it does it's LAN negotiation, it will detect UPNP. If it is not detected, your box will not be able to negotiate it's connection to its network. UPNP allows automatic port forwards to be created for you game console. Yes you can do your own port forward but your online experience will be limited. I use UPNP for mine. I have tried manual port forwarding but had to many issues as PSN updates it's host routing tables frequently to add new game servers, delete unused ones, etc.

Some useful links about UPNP for game consoles:
          www.gamespot.com/forums/playstation-nation…/what-is-upnp-27235504/
          www.gamefaqs.com/boards/691088-xbox-one/70991335

PS4 cache....johnpoz. you clearly know nothing about game consoles. Clear the PS4 cache is well known thing on the interweb. This is necessary because once the PS4 makes successful connection to the web/PSN, it builds a database in the system cache to facilitate its online experience. This database is never modified unless PSN modifies it's routing tables. So therefor, it is necessary to clear the system cache, i.e. unplugging the PSN for 15 minutes to facilitate this operation. Especially when experiencing connection and NAT issues with the console.

Below are some useful links that detail this procedure.

The last thing I should mention here is concerning you OPT1 port. Under the interface options tab for OPT1, it needs to be set as "TRACKED" in the appropriate IP drop down; which I believe is IPv6. Been a while since I setup an OPT port. I don't use it anymore since in my opinion, pfsense runs better with just WAN and LAN ports since it is intended as a gateway security appliance. If you need additional ports, added a hub or switch to you LAN port. Also, for Wifi use, connectivity to me seems much more streamlined if you connect psfsense off of a wireless router vs adding a opt1 port for use with something like a wireless router. Doing it this way, you create a physical DMZ in front of you pfsense box vs a software DMZ inside of it.

15 minutes to clear a cache – BS!!  And what stores it for 15 minutes after power is removed? Clearly you don't know anything on how electronics work at all.

As to not knowing anything about consoles.. Yeah I my son has them, and you sure and the Hell do not need UPnP enabled for it to get on the internet..

So he needs UPnP huh??  Then why when he connects it to his lan does it work?

Why don't you go out an read a bit about the subject before you tell someone they know nothing or talk down to them. Cache clearing a PS4 cache solves a lot of issues that pop up over time. Even, lack of connectivity.

Clearly what I did was post suggestions and things to try to help the original poster. You on the other hand, come on here slamming me with the attitude of picking apart suggestions and thusly verbally attacked me because I am trying to help the OP out with some personal experience.

BUT NO NO NO… you know everything!!!

Remember, my suggestions are things that I have done that HAVE WORKED for me. Hence why I am SUGGESTING them.

He may have UPNP enabled on the LAN port, but not the OPT1 port. You have physically highlight the ports you want UPNP to listen on.

Dude clearly cache doesn't freaking take 15 minutes is my POINT!!  No shit rebooting a device clears a lot of problems.. But you sure and the hell do not have to unplug the nic to clear a cache, and you sure and the hell do not have to leave power removed for 15 freaking minutes.

And UPnP has NOTHING to do with getting on the internet..  It has to do with forwarding unsolicited ports inbound.

What I would suggest you do is actually understand WTF your trying to talk about before giving advice…

The OP clearly works when connected to his switch via LAN.. He is bringing up a new OPT interface..  That has nothing to do with UPnP and has NOTING to do with unplugging your machine for 15 minutes to clear some cache.. Rebooting it for 1 freaking second would remove the cache..

Did he say he has UPnP enabled - its OFF out of the BOX!!!  If he not figure out how to create a rule on a opt interface, I find it HIGHLY Unlikely he ever turned on UPnP

I rebooted my box and it now lets me connect to the internet.

I also hate using UPnP because it doesn't open all the ports for Xbox/PS4 so I like to do them manually.

Thank you guys for the advice.

You mean you didn't have to leave it off and unplugged from power and ethernet for 15 minutes??  You don't freaking say.. wTF…

And what you don't have UPnP enabled -- no shit, clearly mister expert was sure that xbox and ps4 both require UPnP to even get on the internet..  Just flabbergasted he didn't have clue one to what he was talking about ;) heheheh
