WAN address showing an internal ip
-
Hi all, I have just installed successfully Pfsense on a Watchguard x500, I used the image that was provided here - https://forum.pfsense.org/index.php?topic=7458.675 Page 49. Thanks to Michel-f for that!.
Anyway, whne I connect the cable to the WAN interface which is set to DHCP, the i.p comes back as 192.168.1.36 as shown here. http://i.imgur.com/b991oBP.png
The Draytek 2750 currently issues i.p address' to all connected devices.
Anyway, I have one LAN cable from the modem/router to the WAN port on the x500, then one patch cable from port 5 to a 48 port switch which has all the other devices on.
When I connect the cable from the router to the x500, I lose all internet on all the other hardwired devices, when the same cable is taken from the x500 and plugged directly into the switch all other devices have internet access.I'm wondering why pfsense WAN is getting an internal i.p, when it should be seeing the outside world via the router.
An option i've not tried yet is getting pfsense to assign i.p's and not the router, that said, I have a lan-to-lan vpn running on the router with my parents house and dont want to bugger that up.
My isp is BT (UK) and I do not have a static WAN i.p. <–- might not be useful to you guys.
Any help on this would be great, many thanks

"I'm wondering why pfsense WAN is getting an internal i.p, when it should be seeing the outside world via the router."
Because the device in front of it is handing it a rfc1918 address via dhcp.. How is this a question??

I get that and it does seem like a silly question, i presumed pfsense would pass through and see the external one.
I really should not presume anything…
Anyway, can you advise and guide on a solution, would I be correct in needing pfsense to handle dhcp?

Have you checked that the Draytek 2750 operating mode is set to Bridge Mode?

"Have you checked that the Draytek 2750 operating mode is set to Bridge Mode?"
I've not changed any settings on the router yet, it is currently set to Route Mode. http://i.imgur.com/041dso2.png
Going forward, I'll need to change the router to bridge then enable dhcp on the x500, making sure pfsense deals with all internet aspects?

" i presumed pfsense would pass through and see the external one. "Dude really?? So you did not change your device in front of pfsense to bridge mode, but you presumed pfsense would just magically get a public IP? I am just at a complete loss here.. Really!!!
Do you want pfsense to have your public IP from your isp or do you want to double nat? Either works - so put your device that is currently in front of pfsense to bridge mode, or take it out completely if its just a router and not a gateway.. When pfsense gets a public IP its wan you should be ready to go..
If your going to double nat, then your going to want to make sure pfsense is not using the same network it has on its wan as on its lan, or that there is no overlap in these networks. Anything you would want to forward to behind pfsense would have to be forwarded on the device in front of pfsense also doing nat to the pfsense wan IP..

Yeah, when you put it that way, it seems really stupid.

It's also a gateway, so taking it out is not an option for me. Bridge mode it is then
I seem to be having a brain fart at the moment and things that should be obvious in this situation are not.
Thank you for the guidance thus far, I'll pop the draytek onto bridge now and see what happens. -
Tried the above an to no avail. I think I am going to have a change around.
I have a gateway doing nothing so I'll swap out the modem/router and out that in, then from there directly into the x500.This should save all the issues I'm having. Trial and error I guess.
