HP NC364T no longer working after reboot
-
Hi
I am facing a strange issue.
I have been running my pfSense box for over a year now and had no issues, except from bad hard drives that died from time to time.
A few months ago bought a fancy new HP NC364T quad gigabit NIC, which contains 4 Intel 82571EB chips and it was working fine with pfSense.
But today I was forced to reboot due to some strange issue with my ISP and after that none of the 4 ports have been able to work. the monitor normally displays a message if an interface goes up or down, but no longer for this card. the two onboard realtek cards work fine.
I have tested with a linux live cd and all 4 ports are working fine.
This box originally started with pfsense 2.2, but has since been upgraded to 2.3.1 (Patch 5) along the way.I thought that maybe something had been corrupted and therefore I downloaded a fresh memstick amd64 image and made a bootable USB and reinstalled pfsense 2.3.1 with the default quick/easy install settings and standard kernel. Still the same result.
Not even setting a static IP on the interface works. In the webGUI it shows as autoselect in the dashboard.
In Status -> Interfaces it shows with these details:Status: no carrier DHCP: down MAC Address: 00:26:55:db:83.3d MTU: 1500 Media: autoselect In/out errors: 0/0 Collisions: 0
The output of /var/log/dmesg.boot shows that the NIC's are being detected by pfSense:

Has anything happened to the devices supported by the BSD em driver or has pfSense done anything that might have caused this to happen?
Any help is greatly appreciated.

That is bizarre indeed. The 82571EB is well supported; I'm using it myself in a 2 port HP card. I can't offer any answers except that to my knowledge, nothing has changed in the em driver that would cause this.

This box originally started with pfsense 2.2, but has since been upgraded to 2.3.1 (Patch 5) along the way.
Perhaps something was strange during the update or upgrade process or plain was going wrong
pending on one or more packets that where installed on your pfSense box.- I would try to install version 2.2.6 clean(without any packets), fresh and full (mSATA, HDD/SSD)
and see if there will be a problem or not if all is fine running and working well it could not based on that version
- Then after trying out that I would try out then to install the latest version 2.3.1.5 but also clean(without
any packets), fresh and full (mSATA, HDD/SSD)and if there will be any kind of problems then you would
be clear to say from where it comes
And then you might be sure to say with which version you might be going along the next time until
it will be updated and/or a newer version will be there, so you can test this from time to time until
you will be seeing any changes in the support, stability or other things.
