      Hello,

I have been having some intermittent issues with my WAN connection since something happened to my SG 2440 about three weeks ago.  The 2440 would not boot and I had to reinstall the software from USB.  I was able to reload the configuration from my gold subscription and get the network back up and running.

I am seeing occasional loss of connectivity to websites/high ping times and I am not sure what the culprit is.  I think there is a possibility it is the 2440 or the Comcast network.
Here are the steps I have done to troubleshoot it.

      1.  Power cycle two unmanaged gigabit switches that are on the network.  No changes

      2.  Check wifi vs ethernet and both are out or highly latent.

      3.  Reboot SG2440, no changes, still out or highly latent

      3.  Connect the moto cable modem directly to a computer and ping google.com.  Check signals and everything seems to work.

      5.  Reconnect moto cable modem to the SG2440 and everything then seems to work.

I haven't seen any entries in the watchdog log.

Any suggestions to help me rule out the SG2440?

      Thanks,
      Jerold

The software version is current at 2.3.1-RELEASE-p5 (amd64).  I have attached a screen shot of the ping trends I am seeing.

I am noticing some entries in the log that seem to correlate to the time I am having outages/high latency.  Not sure what these entries are.    Earlier entries involve 192.168.100.10 and 192.168.100.1, which are the IP addresses of the cable modem.

          Thank you

          Jerold

Here it is.  I've had three outages with the switches connected today and have since ran the 2440 lan direct to the mac and have had no outages.  Thinking it may be one of my two switches.

I had an outage event after the last reboot of the cable modem, so I am pretty convinced the cable modem and comcast are not the reason.

Switches have been known to go bad..  Especially when they get power bumps.

i sure wouldn't let cable company off the hook to easy congestion in there network can cause what you are seeing
t-3's point towards return path issues along with higher return signal levels you can not see from modem your return signal quality

I just never have seen a problem when I isolate the cable modem to a single PC.    Its only when connected to my network.    I may have Comcast come out but they will bill me for the truck roll if the issue is inside the home.  This is such a frustrating problem.

You might try putting this into google:

Seems to be pertinent results to me.
