I've installed PfSense on three separate GA-N3150N-D3V (rev. 1.0) motherboards now, and although the installations work okay and the devices seem to operate stable I'm seeing major flickering on my monitors once PfSense completes its final boot up process.

Their are no graphics flickering when tested in Windows, Linux etc using the same or different displays, cables, PSU's with nothing else connected to the boards.
The flickering is only apparent during the installation part of PfSense and then once its finally booted up. During the install for example, I use the easy quick installation, keeping all defaults selected and I'm seeing lots of flickering across the install load bar region.
Once the install is finally complete and the system reboots the bios and display are perfect again during the first part of the pfsense boot up procedure, but the moment the boot up gets to the point where it starts to load devices the flickering issue appears and remains their indefinitely, but only with pfsense (not windows or anything else).
Also, I'm slightly concerned that default installation or drivers may be causing damage to the onboard Intel N3150 inbuilt GPU if I were to leave these running in their current state and I suspect that whatever is causing this flicker is equally causing the CPU temps to run possibly higher than usual too.
The temps are sitting around 55-60°C (fan-less processor) in a Minibox M350 case on a warm day. I'm not sure if that's an ideal average for an Intel N3150 board / processor or whether they should be running much cooler than that as these are my first N3150's that I've used so I'm not that familiar with them to be honest, I only know the maximum suggested temps listed on Intel's website
Does anyone know of any solution for this flickering issue?

Graphics Base Frequency 320 MHz
Graphics Burst Frequency 640 MHzI'm just worried that the base frequency might be exceeding the manufacturers recommendations due to a driver issue, and what we in fact are seeing are the effects of that. I'm equally worried about the potential damage that could stem from that if that was the case.
It seems you have the same Intel N3150 CPU/GPU onboard your Zotac Ci323, well just out of curiosity may I ask what temps you are getting with your CPU please.

Mine, unfortunately failed after approximately 3 months of work. Now I'm in process of warrant replacement. However, I suppose it may be not best suited for heavy duty, 24/7 working regime, especially taking heat temperature into account.
Interestingly enough, in meantime I replaced my Gigabyte build with zotac 323 and my temperatures are almost 47 degrees all the time, sharp. Which is interesting, because zotac has much lower form factor. Looks like they provide better heat distribution than gigabyte.

I don`t have a monitor hooked up, only when I installed, but see the flickering too.
My case is smallish and has 12 mm room above the CPU cooling block, it does however have a perforated part above it.

On top of the CPU cooling block I installed a 60mm slim (10 mm thick) fan with double sided tape, connected to CPU fan header.
Fits exactly in the case.
Temps 43C-47C, ambient at the moment 28C, CPU is rated max. 90C, So no worries… :) -

I also decided on a Zotac CI323 and was quite disappointed when I noticed this issue. I thought I got a bad one. Updated the bios, fiddled with the bios, tried a different monitor, cable, connection, pfSense settings related to serial, full vs nano installation and I failed at adjusting framebuffer. I'm actually quite surprised to see its present in other configurations as well!
I filed a ticket with Zotac and they haven't responded. I'm also worried that leaving it as is will damage the box in the long run :(

Did you manage to get any feedback from the pfSense developers yet?
The primary thing that all of our devices have in common is the N3150, so I'm guessing a driver issue in relation to that and its onboard GPU is primary problem.
Can you post a link from this post to your bug ticket so they can see that others are also experiencing this. I did sign up on the bug report forum, but its pointless in having multiple posts for the same problem, so if you could post a link back to this post that would be really helpful for those experiencing this.

Wouldn't iGPU turn off automatically after adding dedicated card? I've used Asus Neon pcie x1 cards for this. Power draw increase is couple of Watts, downside is one less usable PCIe slot.

Same flickering issue here, using Biostar J3160MD mainboard with Intel Celeron J3160 SoC (integrated Intel HD Graphics 400). Only tried it with DVI.
pfsense works fine though. Haven't had any other issues since installation (but it's only up for a day now…so no long term report).

Wouldn't iGPU turn off automatically after adding dedicated card? I've used Asus Neon pcie x1 cards for this. Power draw increase is couple of Watts, downside is one less usable PCIe slot.

This is not a hardware fault, and all boards tested worked perfectly fine with windows and Linux. The issue literally only comes about the second that pfsense starts booting up drivers. So for me it would make more sense in this issue being patched especially as this is such an awesome cheap little SOC and becoming quiet common place.
Another thing, the TDP of the Intel processor on this motherboard is a mere 6 watt, now what's the point in going for an ultra low powered capable motherboard with a great hardware encryption capable processor only to then add an additional 25-30WATT GPU load, taking up a PCI slot that could bet better used for a dual port Intel NIC or something beneficial. :o
Theirs no point in buying a graphics card to display like four colours used during the installation and start-up configuration of pfsense, especially when their is a more than capable modern one already in place that's drivers just need some TLC from the devs.

That will be fine the only major problem I'm having is with the flickering, it still remains; I'm not sure if the 2.4 pre alpha will fix it though. Hopefully it will!

-SSD KingstonWill the 60W PSU really be able to run the system? I did a test on OuterVision with that hardware and the load ended up at around 50-60W, OuterVision recommended a 100W PSU for the set-up.

Just tested version 2.4 alpha experimental and I can confirm their is no more flickering. Hopefully that will still be the case when the final release is out. ;)

I have the same issue on my zotac ci323. Doesn't bother me at all, only happens during pFsense installation. Probably driver issue. How's 2.4 running on ci323. I'm keen to try it.
