Pfsense on a VM?
-
Ok … don't laugh please ...
Trying to get pf on a small box and the only ones available are a micro-box and a HP Compaq 6005 Pro. The micro-box Mob only has one interface and the only option for a 2nd one that I could find was a USB -> RJ-45 that would compromise the performance and require several sleepless nights making it to work.
HP option is also not a good option as the installer hangs on BTX loader and the only thing I could find were people giving up saying their a memory allocation problem with some HPs old boxes.
So Only option left: ubuntu (on that same HP) as freeBSD won't install either plus virtualbox + pfsense VM.
Would that work? Will be dedicated to pf, but pf would run on the VM ...
Any feedback (even to call me crazy) is appreciated :)

Install pfSense on the micro-box and use VLANs. Only one NIC and a smart/managed switch required for VLANs.

Good idea. Thanks!
