Hello, ive been looking on the forum and doing some searching to try and find some background info where i can.
Ive got a small rack at my new house and i was looking to build a 19" 2U router with a switch in the same case. When i say switch im just going to get a gigabit switch, remove it from the casing and install it into the rack case.

With regards to the PFSense side if things five found two mother boards of intrest (hope i can post the links without being shot). They are both 1037u motherboards which should have enough power for me.

although there is this one which i could put an I3 into it.

My internet connection is 53mb fibre with 11mb upload, but i would like to future proof a bit. I would like wifi but ive read that an access point is the way forward.
Im running a few small servers and CCTV so nothing to complex.

The main question is, has anyone any experience with one of these boards as they look a good solution for my needs/budget.

    Kind Regards

    Trev

If you have 2U to work with why don't you get a 1U server chassis for Pfsense and a 1U switch.

This is probably easier and maybe cheaper than hacking both in the same case.

1U equipment can be more expensive so you can get desktop models and put them on a rack mount shelf if needed.

        Gotta second sparky_3's suggestion.

If you're looking at 1U servers for pfSense to go in a rack, I would check out the HP Proliant DL360 G7s. I might start sounding like a broken record but they can be found on ebay for relatively cheap…$200 will get you a pretty loaded one. I'm running pfSense on one that has dual hex core Xeon procs (so 24 cores with HT, super overkill), 48gb of RAM, 15K SAS disks in a raid array, and 4 built in GB nics. Perfect for pfSense, even if incredible overkill for a home network. Rock solid.

          Dito.

A 1u switch and 1u case with front I/O would be a better option and would make upgrading easier.
