We recently replaced a Cisco RV-325 router with a PFSense appliance, all is working fine except we have lot of complaints from users when opening office documents over the VPN link that for example word or excel are taking long to open the file. The performance of the tunnel as such is ok, we can get the max speed of 20 mb out of it and the RTT also is normal.

Is there any way to investigate if packets are dropped or if fragmentation is causing the issue here ?

      Thanks and best regards,
      Gerry

Most likely you need to set MSS clamping (VPN > IPsec, Advanced Settings tab), enable it and set it to 1300 or so. If that helps, you might raise it up a bit, 1400 or so and try again. Reset states between tests.
