As the title said, What is the Best USB Wifi 2.4GHZ"N" Adapter With Pfsense? i have an old Laptop and i want to use it as a router with Pfsense so that i can use the traffic shaping function for online gaming. Please suggest the best USB wifi 2.4 "N" adapters to use! And if using a PCI card is more powerful please also suggest some good 2.4 N ones.

I wouldn't any such devices for a good wifi experience. If you want good wifi, then get a AP..
-
But would you recommend an AP that have Traffic Shaping feature? this is all what concerns me, I want to play my favorite online games while others in my home network watch videos and browse FB.

traffic shaping is done by pfsense while the wifi router just acts as an AP.
netgear r7000 with ddwrt is your best bet
-
that is not a AP, that is a wifi router.. You could use it as a AP but why not just buy a REAL AP, that has for sure vlan support, etc. While you might be able to get some vlan support with 3rd party firmware like dd-wrt.. Going to be hit or miss.
I show that r7000 for $170 on amazon, you could get a unifi AC- pro for $140.. POE for easy deployment in the proper location. Has 3x3, dual band, vlan support. Supports DFS channels, does ATF, band steering, etc. etc..
As already stated your traffic shaping you would be doing on pfsense.

Please can you guide me through this? I am still a newbie in this kind of stuff.
Right now I have 1 old PC and 1 laptop (i can install pfsense on any of them) + 1 wireless modem/router "netgear dgn2200" + another 1 old modem/router "SMC"Or for example if i purchase the "unifi-ap-ac-lite" how i will setup the whole thing together?
Please can you tell me what the setup will look like?

I know your interested in traffic shaping on pfsense but if that's all your gonna use it for why don't you just use a regular wireless router QoS from netgear r7000 or asus ac5300/ac88? But if you insist on using pfsense I assume your netgear dgn2200 is your current modem/wifi all in one for your isp correct? So it would look something like this if my assumption is correct:
DGN2200–>PC/Laptop with pfsense
Then put an ap somewhere in the house. Unifi AP AC Lite would work but best to run a rj45 to the ap, but I believe unifi has what they call a wireless uplink chaining it off your netgear signal. You'll probably have to ask unifi forum for specific, but why don't you try it with what you have? If the SMC is capable of wireless surely it's capable of repeater mode which would act similar to AP's. GL

Thank you very much sir, Now i will make it like that, DGN2200 > PC with Pfsense > then Use SMC as an AP
Please if you don't mind telling me how i will connect the SMC AP to my PC with "Pfsense"? Do i need 2 network cards one for the DGN and one for the SMC AP? Sorry for that as you can see i am a Novoice but i will make it happen.

Get a cheap switch and connect your pfSense system to one of its ports, the AP you're going to use to another port on it and lastly connect any other wired devices you have to the remaining ports.

Let's get to the basic and ask what is your current setup? Kpa do have a point too which you can do with a switch but that is if your willing to pay. You don't need to connect the smc to your pc or dgn since it's acting as a ap/repeater. I don't know which model you have for smc but this should be close enough:

"Right now I have 1 old PC and 1 laptop"
Do they have more than 1 nic? Or do you have a switch that supports vlans?
This is your typical setup..
If your going to use an old wifi router as AP. Make sure you connect it to your network with one of its LAN ports!!! Turn off its dhcp server, and give it an IP address that is on your network so you can access its webgui. So wifi routers have a AP mode where the wan port is bridged to the wifi along with the lan. But normally this is not the case, just easier to use lan port.. Or you going to end up double natting.
If your using some old wifi router, it most likely has say 4 lan ports. This can be your switch in the drawing..

So you mean i don't use the "Repeater Mode" "AP" mode in the router and instead disable DHCP, Give it an IP address and connect it via one of it's LAN ports to the Pfsense system? or i just do both of them?

"So you mean i don't use the "Repeater Mode" "AP" mode in the router"
WTF would you use repeater mode for.. As to what AP mode means on your router I have no idea.. What it should me is just bridge wan port to wifi as well so you have an extra port, etc.
Yes lets go over this again.. To use ANY, I mean ANY wifi router as just an AP.. You connect it to your network via 1 of its lan ports, and disable its dhcp server there you go AP!!!

Take it easy man, i told you i am just a noob and this is my first time ever to start something like this! but anyway thanks for the help.

As the title said, What is the Best USB Wifi 2.4GHZ"N" Adapter With Pfsense?
i have an old Laptop and i want to use it as a router with Pfsense so that i can use the traffic shaping function for online gaming.
Hm, I rella ydon´t know if this should be a good 2nd life for a laptop, but its your choice!
Please suggest the best USB wifi 2.4 "N" adapters to use! And if using a PCI card is more powerful please also suggest some good 2.4 N ones.
In normal I would have a look under the link from above or if I am in your situation a nice small 5 Port Switch
likes the Netgear GS105E or GS108E able to get for ~$25 or ~$40 and a sufficient nice WiFi N router that
comes with OpenWRT or DD-WRT and then let it run in the WLAN AP mode! Cheap, everywhere to get your
hands on and well working.netgear r7000 with ddwrt is your best bet
Let them run in the WLAN AP mode and all is fine.
Well running and good working for me and friends are;
- UBNT SR71-A and SR71-E
- Compex-WLE200NX
- miniPCIe > USB Adapter
- UBNT UniFi ac Pro WLAN APs
- MikroTik RB435G & RB493G & OpenWRT & miniPCI WLAN cards
