Pfsense and Netgear D7000 as modem, AP and Switch
-
Hi everyone,
I think I already know the answer to this but thought I would ask any way just in case. I am new to pfsense but I love some of the features it has. I have an old i5 system that I am going to use for pfsense but I already have a Netgear D7000 router which is quite a high end consumer router with excellent WiFi.
From my understanding you assign an Ethernet port to the WiFi and connect an AP to that port and assign another port to the wired LAN and connect a switch to that. I'm slightly put off by the number of devices needed is there any way to reduce this down using the equipment I have?
I don't think the D7000 supports VLAN's

does your modem router support port mapping? if it does then you can assign a PVC profile to a certain port so you can use the other unused port as a switch and AP as well. If it doesnt, then that sucks since port mapping is supported by most of ISP provided modem routers.

Hi,
What do you mean by PVC profile?
