      Hi.
This night I had a serious problem on Load Balancer on my pfSense 2.2.6 firewall.
Suddenly all virtual servers was down, and I had this in logs:

Dec 10 02:43:15    relayd[73089]: check_child: lost child: pf update engine exited
Dec 10 02:43:15    relayd[73089]: check_child: lost child: host check engine exited
      Dec 10 02:43:15    relayd[73089]: terminating

The firewall (and the load balancer) was running for a long time (Mar 2015) without any problems.

I checked CPU and memory RRD graphs:

I don't find any other relevant information in logs about why the relayd process terminated itself.

      Could you help me please?

Would it be better to switch to haproxy?

      Thank you very much!
      Bye

The error suggests that a process was unexpectedly killed. Were there no other errors nearby in the logs? The main system log perhaps?

Given the choice, I would always pick HAProxy over relayd for any task that HAProxy can handle. The relayd balancer is OK for small/simple things but it's hard to beat the flexibility and reliability of HAProxy.
