Hardware Available at the pfSense Store

I'm debating between building and buying. Are there new/updated models coming into the store in Jan 2016 that are worth waiting for?
Pending on the new Intel Xeon D-15xx models this could really be true, that we can buy some new models
from the pfSense store then, with 8/16, 12/24 or 16/32 CPU Core, together with AES-NI, QuickAssist and
capable of DPDK enabled software.If not, I'll probably look to build from some of the specs the community has posted.
What is with the SG units from the store? Are they not enough for your needs? They are combining
the best of two worlds, the three miniPCIe + SIM slots from the APU system but with Intel GB LAN Ports
and an Intel C2000 SoC. Much RAM and eMMC storage. If I saved enough money I will go with an SG-8860
unit from them. Nothing else on the market is scratching on this box and can beat it. -

The SG models were all newly released in the past 4-8 months and will be the current version for low end to mid range needs for some time. There isn't anything more up to date than what those systems contain at that range and won't be for quite a while.

Looking at the SG-4860 in the pfSense store:

it now has the following note:
Units produced prior to 1 December 2015 have 4 GB eMMC flash. Units produced after 1 December 2015 have 32GB eMMC flash.
Sounds good to me. But, is that enough for running OpenVPN and some ad blocking without a separate SSD?

I've never used pfSense, so I don't know how it's done (natively or in something like Squid). But, basically, maintain a list of ad domains to block. Is that 32GB eMMC enough storage to hold the software and the data it needs.

For something likes pfSense & Snort & pfBlocker-NG I would go with the eMMC storage, but
for something like Squid with much more logging and perhaps caching on top I personally
would more tend to use a SSD or mSATA with more space. Others might be see it different. -
Not sure if this is the right place to post, I'm having an issue with our new XG-1540 that upon power up it won't boot. It's resolved after a reboot. This concerns me in case of a total power outage it won't be able to reboot. I would hate to use one of our support incidents for this since we only have 1 left.

If it's a potential hardware fault that wouldn't use any of your support incidents, without more info it's hard to say what might have happened. At a minimum you'd want to start your own thread here, but you are much better off contacting support for that sort of issue.

So, I know there is always some new hardware being developed by the pfSense team and Netgate. My question is, will the team ever release something like the Ubiquiti team where you can purchase some of the beta hardware knowing this is beta hardware and software and that you really shouldn't be using this in a production system.

Purchased an SG-2220 for my parents and Im very impressed. Im now considering one of these for a couple of remote locations. :)
