New SG-4680 1U
-
Hi,
Just got my new SG-4680 1U, replaced my WG Firebox 550e. I like it so far, but have a few questions (see below). There are no instructions with it for the hardware :(
- How does one hook up an additional internal fan on the back of the case to the motherboard? Do I hook up to the pins on the back of the motherboard? It is not labelled well.
- How does one secure an internal SSD to the case? Is a special bracket needed?
- How does one boot to the internal SSD?
Thx for the help

You will be able to see well on this photo show that there is only one fan hole (photo 5, 6 and 7) on the back side! Where do you want
to install the second fan? SG-4860 1U- How does one secure an internal SSD to the case? Is a special bracket needed?
Under the CPU Cooler on the right site you will see the shared SATA port, you could use it or the mSATA slot to insert SSD wise storage.
And under the link shown in the above comment you will see on the right side a SATA power cable in cable bundle near the PSU! That's
it to connect a SATA SSD in side of the case. I would place it on the right side inside the case. pfSense SG-4860 Board & connectorsFor sure it is your choice to build your own appliance or sort it right your needs and willing, but would a small mSATA not be better
matching right to the heat prevention inside of that box.- How does one boot to the internal SSD?
You should be able to change the boot order in the BIOS as normal.

There are no instructions with it for the hardware
Why do you want to tinker with the device? It should work flawlessly as delivered.
I'm trying to understand your motivation for it. -
Hi and thanks for the reply.
The version of the hardware I received is not the same as the one you quoted below. I already look a there. My version does not have a fan blowing air over the MB and it has two openings on the back (take a look at the back image at this site https://www.netgate.com/products/sg-4860-1u.html). However, that being said, I noticed I missed the image which illustrates that I can use the header on the left back of the MB for the fan. Thx for that.
As for the SSD, I realize I can use the mSATA, but my question is related to where to mount the SSD if I decided to use an SSD that I plug into the SATA headers below the CPU. I understand there is space beside the MB, but how does not physically attach it to the case so it does not move; that is not clear to me.
And for entering the BIOS, maybe I am missing it, but I do not see at what point in the boot sequence I have a chance to get to the bios. And what is the keying sequence used to get it into the BIOS. For example, most non-MACS use the DEL or F1/F2 key. This is where a manual would be helpful (for me at least).

Hi - thx for the reply.
There are a few reasons
-
I feel it is missing a fan, one was not shipped with it
-
I want to understand my options
-
if the need ever exists to upgrade/expand the appliance I will be prepared instead of trying to figure it out later
