Smite and applaud list

Well, since they're apparently useless, why are we wasting time talking about them at all then?

To inform those who seem to think they are meaningful just how useless they are. Also to provide input on what would make them meaningful and useful. This is after all the "feedback" forum.

Poorly played. Much lack of understanding very apparent of value of discussion and feedback.
Our opinions are just as valid as yours. We lack understanding because we don't agree with you? :(

Likewise. And I'm sharing my opinion. Then KOM suddenly wants the thread closed rather than discussing. A very typical response used to squelch opposition when ones position is weak.

You misunderstood what KOM meant. "/thread" was meant in jest, like an online forum version of a mic-drop.
He definitely wasn't literally requesting that we shut down this thread.

So now you are the voice of KOM?
If KOM's close thread request was in jest then there are ways to make that clear with more than a dozen emoji cons to chose from. Usually when people request a thread lock they are not joking. And mods don't seem to take it as a joke.

I cannot believe that this thread has gotten so silly so quickly.
Yes, I was joking.
No, I did not want the thread closed.
Can we stop arguing about this nonsense now, please? I'm regretting ever replying in the first place.

I don't feel that providing feedback for improvements is silly at all.
As for nonsense needing to be stopped. You're the one making jokes rather than providing serious input on how the ratings system could be improved.
As for your involvement in the thread. Only you can control that.

Actually Id like to know why a smite happened. But then again I couldn't really care less.
edit= and as I come back to edit "why" to "what comment contributed" I see I got my first smite.. ;D ;D ;D
LMAO!

And after re- certifying for a particular "over the shoulder snooping test yesterday- my wife begins laughing from behind me as I posted that. :o

smites piling up again I assume due to my posts in here https://forum.pfsense.org/index.php?topic=125105.0
Smiting someone because you dont agree with their opinion is abusive in my opinion, smite someone if they rude or just trolling but for just offering an opinion?
I think someone is toying with me, another smite right after this post. Great system abuse galore. Might get 50 smites by end of day?

It's good to have a thread around like this so people know it's nothing definitive, just a general guide and though it's vaguely useful, it's not great.
But complaining about it only seems to generate more negativity.
Not even the admins can see what users clicked smite or applaud, nor can anyone see what post generated the click.
Maybe they have changed that behavior in newer versions of SMF but I'm not holding my breath.
So take it with a giant grain of salt, and don't take it personally.

It needs to be at least … 3 times that big.

I understand why you saying what you saying, but to me, who comes on the forum, takes time to post, to help others, or to ask for help, and I am getting feedback that sort of says "you not welcome here, go away".
I cannot see why that feedback is given, and who gave it, so I dont know what I have done wrong in that person's eyes. But it does encourage me to give up on the forum.

I understand that but my take away when I see another negative karma is to generally try to be less of a dick, which I can always put more effort into.
In my opinion, most people do actually have a karma rating that reflects their actual conduct on this forum.

It's not the "most people" that is the issue though. It's the few who have ratings that are quite skewed from their behavior. Forum readers who have been around for a while get a feel for who they are. But it can be quite misleading to new forum readers/members/participants.
