      I'm struggling to get started with my pfSense journey.  I've purchased a Supermicro AOC-SG-i2 but the drivers aren't being installed.

      I've searched and found this https://forum.pfsense.org/index.php?topic=61031.0 that led to this https://www.freebsd.org/cgi/man.cgi?query=igb&apropos=0&sektion=0&manpath=FreeBSD+8.1-RELEASE&arch=default&format=html but I have no idea how to

      To compile this driver into the kernel, place the following line in your
          kernel configuration file:

      device igb

      Alternatively, to load the driver as a module at boot time, place the
          following line in loader.conf(5):

      if_igb_load="YES"

      Can somebody help please.  Thanks in advance

        pfSense already includes the igb driver by default. The post you linked is 4 years old and is not relevant.

        What exactly is happening that makes you believe the network interface driver isn't loading?

          I did think it was strange

          @jimp:

          pfSen

          What exactly is happening that makes you believe the network interface driver isn't loading?

          When I'm booting pfsense it says:

          pci2: <network, ethernet="">at device 5.0 (no driver attached)
          pci2: <network, ethernet="">at device 6.0 (no driver attached)

          And the interfaces are not available for assignment.

          I'm using unraid and I'm running pfsense in a freebsd VM.</network,></network,>

            For a card that old, especially with an Intel chipset, I wouldn't expect it to have a problem.

            You might try a 2.4 snapshot in case it needs a newer driver.

            If the card works in another operating system, what is it detected as there?

              Hi problem solved by changing to a AOC-SGP-i2 card not a AOC-SG-i2 - the older card I think wasn't compatible with my machine.

              I've been up and running a few days now - trying to get my head around traffic shaping now
