Issues with Xeon 1528 - Supermicro
-
Hello,
I purchased a Supermicro mini server and I am having issues installing pfsense. After the installation is complete and I setup my interfaces the two 10gig ports don't show up. Only the 2x1gb ports show which defeats the purpose for me. Is there anything special I need to be doing to have these ports show up?
I installed Windows 10 and Hyper-V to test the ports, and they work perfectly. At this point, I have no idea why they wouldn't be showing up since pfsense uses the same type of ports on some of their hardware.

Any help would be appreciated :).

I would expect those to be supported. What version of pfSense did you install?
Check the boot logs for driver errors.
Try a 2.4. snapshot that will have newer drivers if you see the driver failing to attach.

I will try that version tonight. I was using 2.3.3.

No go. I get stuck at 2 interfaces coming "up" and then nothing happens. I can't select anything or do anything.

Sounds like the last thing you would see if you have the wrong console type selected.
What image exactly did you try?

I tried the memstick image, the iso, and OS version 2.3.3, and 2.4 alpha. I remember getting this thing to boot into the actual install once, but since then, it just won't. Pretty annoying really :(
Im using the VGA console with a keyboard etc.

You should be using this:
https://snapshots.pfsense.org/amd64/pfSense_master/installer/pfSense-CE-memstick-2.4.0-BETA-amd64-latest.img.gzWrite it directly to the USB drive bit for bit as described here: https://doc.pfsense.org/index.php/Writing_Disk_Images.
It should definitely boot and install even if it still doesn't recognise the NICs for some reason.

I hope its not to late, but in another thread a user with a Supermicro board was installing pfSense and it runs fine for him, but only after
doing some thing before, such as;- BIOS Update to 1.0b
If there is one available please do it also for your board - Installing pfSense 2.4-BETA please
Please use the 64Bit memstick usb image and from there then a fresh and full installation on a mSATA or SSD. - After installing and assigning the NICs and then please reboot!
Only after the reboot all NICs are shown up and showing also the right speed!(1GB/10GbE)
Here is the full forum threat about that. I bought a Supermicro 5018D-FN8T: The Chronicles
