OwnCloud X Released
-
Desktop client gets updated regularly. I'm on Linux at home and it just updates now and then. On Windows my client is 2.3.1.
After doing more reading, I did not realize the scope of the drama behind the scenes with ownCloud and Nextcloud. I'm currently investigating converting our existing ownCloud to Nextcloud.

2.3.1 yeah that is current.. Was hoping if they updated they also updated the desktop client.

Nextcloud user too

Please share if you do!
Currently on ownCloud and I absolutely do not have the time to evaluate Nextcloud myself. Happy to hear about your thoughts and experiences! -
Been using nextcloud in a jail on my FreeNAS rig since shortly after the split. My use case may not be of much help to others though as I only use it on my local network for automated backups of our phones. Needed something that just worked without any user input (the warden repels technology) and I've been very pleased with that, at least on android. The iphone app of course needs to be run manually due to Apples restriction on apps running in the background but other than that I've been pleased. Oh that and the mobile apps were both free when I installed them but I think they may have a charge to them now.

Maybe you can add some manual how to install OwnCloud on Pfsense?
-
Ummm, no. pfSense should be used as an appliance not a server.

No.
You do not want to run a public facing server on your firewall. Never ever. Not even in a jail. -
According to the Nextcloud page, there is a direct upgrade path from ownCloud 8.x to Nextcloud. I'll probably give that a go next week.
-
I just fired up a copy of nextcloud on my shared hosting box.. Clickity clickity really.. I have never been a user of any of the other aspects of the apps and such.. Just a easy way to sync files between machines.. So once I fire up my work laptop on monday will just turn off my old owncloud instance.

And today they have a broken upgrade under Ubuntu 16.04. I'm on ownCloud 9.x but it's trying to fetch 10.x stuff. I think today is the day, and I doubt I will upgrade in-place.
The following packages will be upgraded:
owncloud-files
1 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.
Need to get 27.8 MB of archives.
After this operation, 15.6 MB of additional disk space will be used.
Do you want to continue? [Y/n]

I pulled the trigger today, cranked up a Newcloud and nuked my work ownCloud. It is literally ownCloud++. The same basic functionality with some status dashboards and extra plugins. I'll replace my personal VPS ownCloud this weekend.
10/10 would do again.

Assume you meant Nextcloud? Want to check this out…

My new Nextcloud, my next Newcloud… it's all the same ;D
If you like ownCloud, you will love Nextcloud. They even let you change the theme easily. The default blue cloud thingy was ugly.
