Supported dual 10GbE SFP+ card?
-
I am looking to make a pfsense router and firewall for the first time, and I need to have a card in it that will let me connect to both my Netgear 10GbE switch over SFP+ and to my Mellanox 4036E Infiniband switch over the 10GbE SFP+ Ethernet interface. I see that one of the sotre bought models for pfsense has a dual SFP+ interface built in, but it is a few thousand Dollars for that unit. I am looking for a recommendation on a supported NIC that has drivers already in pfsense for the card that I can use. Or perhaps someone knows the exact NIC used in these store models for the dual SFP+? Will the Intel X520-DA2 work "out of the box" as far as drivers in pfsense are concerned? Is there a much better 10GbE SFP+ card than that out now for under a few hundred Dollars?
Thanks you for any help you are able to provide.

I purchased the Chelsio T520-SO-CR 10GbE SFP+ card from the pfSense store. I built something similar to the XG-1541 for more than half the costs. I'm getting ready to install the T520-SO-CR card into my chassis. I'll let you know how the install goes. I just posted a message asking about drivers for the card and if they need to be installed or if the card is "plug and play".

You could try out the Chelsio adapter form the pfSense shop, it is at this time perhaps the best driver supported NIC
under pfSense.I see that one of the sotre bought models for pfsense has a dual SFP+ interface built in, but it is a few thousand Dollars for that unit.
Supermicro SYS-E300-D8 & SYS-E200-D8 could be able to get for 800 Euros - 1200 Euros with two 10GbE Ports or SFP+ Ports.

New Xeon D-1518 or D-1528 boards with build in 2 x 10GbE or 2 x SFP+ Ports & Version pfSense 2.4 BETA might be
a good solution, or Chelsio cards from the pfSense store might be also nice and best driver supported under pfSense.Or perhaps someone knows the exact NIC used in these store models for the dual SFP+?
Chelsio T520-SO-CR 10GbE

Could be but I don´t know how fine this will work!

Chelsio T520-SO-CR for $245 might be the best bet at this time!

Thanks to both of you. I ended up buying the Chelsio T520-CR and it should be arriving tomorrow :D Im glad I asked, I didnt even know these cards existed before your replies.

The T520-SO-CR was plug and play on my system. I powered down pfSense, installed the card, fired up pfSense, reassigned the LAN to one of the SFP+ ports on the card and everything worked. Couldn't be any happier. Good luck.
