'Er Indoors is some sort of academic and therefore has to have guaranteed net access 24/365. 'I have a deadline' etc. There was much moaning when we had an ADSL outage for a few hours last week. What is the best 4G dongle that pfSense works with, for UK use currently. Thanks.

I think the problem is getting one configured…

You might want to have a look at this:-

          https://doc.pfsense.org/index.php/Configuring_3G_modems

It's a bit dated and I didn't managed to glean anything from it, but if you do, let me know what you did.

          There's also this:

          https://doc.pfsense.org/index.php/Known_Working_3G-4G_Modems

A Google search for 'pfsense 3g modem' yields a lot of hits, but I've yet to find a definitive guide for setting up my Huawei E3372.

You may be better off using a something like this https://www.amazon.co.uk/NETGEAR-LB1110-100EUS-Practical-Portable-Connected/dp/B01KKEZ7WG that provides an ethernet connection, but it depends on the budget - so if 24/7/365 is the requrement the £100 shouldn't be much of an issue. I'm sure there are other MODEMs that are cheaper out there.
