      Hi there,
was wondering if anyone had any suggestions as to the nature of this problem. I have a first generation SG-4860 that has been working flawlessly for the better part of two years (Purchased from first batch in 2015). Never had issues other than some minor random software config issues.
Today, I could not get internet access from a lan connected computer. Proceeded to a power off reboot.
After this, the SG-4860 started booting up but the status light remained bright red and the SATA light as well although flashing green upon powering up.
I have tried to power cycle it a few times and I always get the same result, stays on with static red status light then after 5 minutes or so just shuts down. Can't connect to the serial port either.

At $399 for basic 2 issue support, I am seeking assistance from the community before spending any more money on PfSense products and/or support as a two year lifespan for hardware that is lightly used is totally unacceptable if this turns out to be the case.

I think I may have to re-install the firmware, however, I am not certain of which package would constitute the installable firmware form the netgate site:  https://firmware.netgate.com/

Any assistance and /or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

We had one that somehow or another corrupted its own firmware such that it would pass traffic and boot up, sort of, but the web admin was broken, and attempting to restart it on the console would always fail.  We sent it in for RMA, and thats the last i heard on it.  Im not in the dept of our company that handles receiving, or sending out RMAs, so im not sure if we got it back fixed or not yet, or what was wrong with it.  Im sure they are handling it, but im a senior engineer and ive got bigger fish to fry than filing RMAs and testing stuff over the phone, etc.  We have lackeys for that.

This was with a 2440 but the firmware is the same.

I have the same problem - SG-4860, status LED lights bright red when powering up (LAN and WAN ports LEDs are also lit), and for a few minutes, then it goes dead. Can't connect to the unit at all.

This happened over night, so was not making any config changes or firmware updates at the time, just woke up with no access to the internet.

              Any ideas what to do?

              TIA,
              Örjan

Connect to USB cable to the console and read POST Information.
Probably Filesystem, is corrupted, so system is unbootable, you will need to boot from USB and fsck filesystem.
If Bootloader is broken, you will need reinstall.

If you installed on eMMC and eMMC is broken (WearOut of flash device), then no panic, you will need to install mSATA or SATA drive to install os on it.

Thanks for your reply! Unfortunately, there is no output at all from console. Also tried booting from a BIOS flash USB, still no console output.
