There is a patch submitted for review that adds support for Apple's style of groups, which is using memberUid. I only have Apple style LDAP so I don't have a way to test against Active Directory or standard OpenLDAP. While it should not affect existing functionality, the patch needs some testing to ensure that everything still works as expected.

The feature request can be found here: https://redmine.pfsense.org/issues/3410
And the github pull request is here: https://github.com/pfsense/pfsense/pull/892

If a few people could test the patch with an existing Active Directory and/or generic OpenLDAP configurations to ensure that everything still works, that would help move the patch along.

      Thanks

That sounds a lot like RFC2307bis authentication as in https://redmine.pfsense.org/issues/5461 .
