J3355/J3455 vs E3 1220l v2

I'm building a dedicated pfsense box and wondering what cpu to use.

the choices are:

E3 1220l v2 has single core passmark 1714
J3355 has single core passmark 881
J3455 has single core passmark 789

is any of these cpus good for 300mbps openVPN?

anyone has any on hand experience?

E3 1220l v2 has more muscle, but uses more power. the later cpus use considerably less, but at a cost. I would go e3 1220, but up to you

There are only 2 mainboards with this processor on the market, 1 of them is only available for industry (batch ordering) and both of them have Realtek NICs (only 1 NIC) and no usefull (full size) PCI-E slot.

J3355B is a great passively cooled CPU for pfSense.

300Mbps OpenVPN AES-128-CBC is at the upper range of its capabilities. If it doesn't get all the way to 300 it should get very close.
In a gateway group it will certainly hit 300Mbps, but that setup has its own set of advantages and limitations.

I personally would buy the modern Celeron over the EOL xeon.

I am currently waiting on a Celeron, the TDP is a bit higher but with the percent of cpu usage it should still be pretty good and also has AES. I am going mini pc with an 1151 socket which will allow me to put a low end Kabylake in it if I wanted to.

I actually bought this, just to test to see if it works.
But also bought Supermicro MBD-X10SLM+-LN4F. It was real cheap on ebay, couldn't pass it up.

So I guess noone has actually used E3 1220l v1/v2/v3 cpus.

Do you know e3 1220l v2 idle power usage? I searched but all I came across was E3 1220v1.. and it used around 17-25w depending on the motherboard. considering V2 is Ivy and 17w vs 20w. it should use bit lower. But I couldn't find actual data.
