Or you could just ask this tech buddy what he is talking about - sounds like he is talking out his ass if you ask me. the Cisco Kernel is a proprietary kernel that will only run on "cisco" hardware.. Are you trying to install pfsense to some "cisco" hardware?

The thing is that the one there told me this was the one I bought some computer components from on a side like Craig's list and not some one I know.
No my setup is Intel based whit a Intel board a Q6600. So no Cisco other than the WLAN card.

Well sounds like the guy was talking out his ass.. I would just forget you got such stupid advice. Think you can run some "cisco" kernel on some components you bought off some site is just nonsense.. Pfsense is based on freebsd..

Consider yourself lucky and don't have as an advisor any more.
Just try plain pfSense and you'll have a firewall that would measure up to most alternatives, including Cisco.

I just thought it could be fun if I could do it.The original reason to get the machine together was to play around whit pfsense and nothing else.

Stick with the original plan.

Use Cisco Packet Tracer for that if you don't have access to the genuine hardware.

How much sense would it make to install a 3rd party Linux kernel in a FreeBSD system?

In the first link to about vpp it stated that it works on Ubuntu, cantos and derbian.
also that it's a open source version of Cisco.Also a statement I found on twitter was that pfsense 3.0 might be build on it.
So I don't see how it helps me now?

ouch, thank god my daytime job keeps me (way too…) busy. I'm really running behind current IT technologies it seems. But IT is not my main focus (SDVoE etc is, though). I guess that's part of what is called "getting old"... :(
