      Greetings,

Besides the firewall rules, what is the most secure way to monitor the status of our firewalls via a 3rd party?  Looking for something more then a simple ping.  I've had situations where status shows up but the firewall slowly works itself into an unstable state to a point that the login doesn't come up but it doesn't appear to be affecting our hosting traffic right away.

What are your thoughts to limiting a user account with 'Effective Privileges' of "WebCfg - Help pages" and nothing else?  I've tested this out and it's an instant redirect to https://doc.pfsense.org/index.php/Main_Page.

Thoughts, ideas, and opinions as always are welcome.

      Dino

It's better to use a monitoring agent tailored for monitoring. Whether that is the built-in SNMP daemon, the NET-SNMP package, Zabbix Agent, or NRPE is up to whatever you use as a monitoring/alerting system.
